Africa Science and Technology Advisory Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (AfSTAG-DRR) Holds 2026 Planning and Coordination Meeting

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 4–6 May 2026

The Africa Science and Technology Advisory Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (AfSTAG-DRR), convened by the African Union Commission (AUC), successfully convened its 2026 Planning and Coordination Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 4 to 6 May 2026.

The in-person meeting brought together AfSTAG members to review progress on ongoing initiatives, finalize the Group’s 2026 workplan, align strategic priorities, and accelerate the implementation of key activities. These efforts support AfSTAG-DRR’s mandate to provide high-level technical expertise and advisory support on science, technology, and innovation for disaster risk reduction (DRR) across the African continent.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the African Union DRR Unit under the Directorate of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy (SEBE), Partners Enhancing Resilience for People Exposed to Risks (PERI-PERI U), Bahir Dar University, and the African Youth Advisory Board on DRR (AYAB-DRR).

This coordination meeting marks an important step in strengthening Africa’s science and technology-driven approach to building resilience and reducing disaster risks.
