πŸ“’ New Report Launch: Multidimensional Assessment of Fragility and Resilience in The Gambia (2021–2025) , By Dr. Ahmed F. Farrage

The African Union Commission (AfSTAG DRR) is pleased to release the Full-Fledged Fragility Assessment (FFFA) for The Gambia β€” a comprehensive analysis grounded in the African Development Bank’s Country Resilience and Fragility Assessment (CRFA) framework.

Key Highlights:

  • The Gambia demonstrates moderate but steadily improving fragility, with the Fragile States Index declining from 80.5 (2021) to 76.1 (2024) and projected at 75.8 in 2025.
  • Notable strengths in Security and Justice, supported by transitional justice (TRRC), security sector reforms, and regional cooperation via ECOWAS/ECOMIG.
  • Persistent challenges remain in Economic Foundations, Social Cohesion, and Climate Change & Environment β€” including poverty (48–53%), youth unemployment, and climate vulnerability.
  • The report characterizes the current state as β€œGuarded Resilience” β€” significant post-2016 democratic gains that require deeper structural reforms to become enduring.

This assessment offers actionable, integrated policy recommendations aligned with The Gambia’s Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (RF-NDP 2023–2027), Agenda 2063, and the AfCFTA. It serves as a practical tool for policymakers, development partners, and stakeholders working to accelerate inclusive growth, climate resilience, and democratic consolidation ahead of the 2026 elections.
